My nephew/godson is graduating from 8th grade and his family is having a party for him. I live out of the state and will not be attending. How much money should I send him.

I have a cousin who recently finished 8th grade, and he lives on the other side of the country.I decided to send him a $50 gift card to Best Buy, so that he could purchase CDs or video games.Of course, it depends on how much you could reasonably afford to send. You might want to consider how much you would send him if he was graduating from high school, rather than 8th grade, then maybe send half of that amount. The whole 8th grade graduation thing is a relatively new concept, so I don't think most people should expect expensive gifts for finishing 8th grade.

Generally 8th graders range in age from 13-14 so it really depends. I'm assuming he's your sister's son because of the newphew part, so you might want to call and ask her what she thinks. Its technically her son and only she can tell you what she thinks is appropriate. Money is a better bet than a gift card, I find them impersonal. And that way he can use it wherever he wants versus at the store of your choosing. So I definetely suggest calling his Mom or Dad to ask them what they think is acceptable. Hope that helps you some!
