I recently buried a distant relative - I did not know any one from her community, but her church family were very kind and helpful - they provided pallbearers who knew my relative. I would like to properly thank them - is a thank you card enough, or shuold I send a gift certificate - if so, how much?

I think a card should be sufficient.

I would send the Church a flower arrangement and a card to be read by the pastor thanking them all for their kindness.Or just a card to read to the congregation would do.Just word the card the way to explained it to us.Condolences also...

Yes, a card would be very nice. I would not send a gift because it would make their being a pallbearer seem like it was more of a job than an honor. These people knew your relative well and probably remember her fondly and were honored that they were chosen for this duty. I suggest just mentioning in the letter how much they must have meant to her and how you were so blessed to have them honor her in death. It is kind of you to remember them... I don't remember my daddy or brother ever receiving a thank you letter for being a pallbearer.

If it was the members of the church who volunteered, a nice card is all that is expected. If you wish to donate a small amount of money to the church, to a special fund or just general funds, that would be sure to be well recieved. Some flowers for the alter, with a thank you card would be nice, too. Just call the church office to arrange it.How nice that the church volunteered. I had to hire pallbearers for my Dad's funeral. There were not 6 able bodied people in the family to serve.
