How thoughtful......a gift certificate is best if you don't know of anything specific she needs.

Sounds like your trying to impress mom. Be straight up, tell her you would like to buy her a backpack and fill it with some school supplies (including fun locker things) for little Skyler. Would she please see if she could help you find the list from her school.

A gift card would do the trick for anybody, but if your in a really giving mood try giving the mom one for the supplies and the kid one for clothes to a store she normally wouldn't be able to go to, it a great pick me up gift.......

I think a gift certificate would be perfect. if you are that concerned maybe you are wanting more than a friendship with her mom that might be cool for them to if it worked out.

i think it depends on how old is your friend's daughter.. if she's in graders, better to buy a backpack or school supplies but is she's a teenager, gift certificate is best coz they make their own choices.
