I'm currentally 8weeks 2 days pregnant with number 2 and I'm not wanting to have a baby shower but my husband wants me to....our situation is his job travels and we use our own car and pack everything that we need into it...I'm affrad that people will give me things that I will not be able to carry and use expecially since we are going to Hawaii for 8 months at the end of this month and the baby will be born there. I was thinking that if people wanted to give me anything to just ask for a gift certificate and i could buy the things that i know we would be able to carry with us. Do you think that its rude just to ask for money or is it best just to go with the shower and return thing?

Usually people only have 1 baby shower...for their first baby. The only time I've ever heard of someone having more than 1 shower is if there's a very long stretch between babies (like 10+ years), meaning that the mother would probably need all new baby things. If it's normal with your family/friends to have a second shower, I wouldn't just ask straight up for money. Only offer it as a suggestion if asked. You could register though, and on the baby shower invites say where you are registered...that way you may get more of the things that you want. Otherwise, just take what you get and return if necessary. Most people like to pick out a gift instead of just giving over the cash, and it's also a little presumptuous to ask for cash, as if they have no choice but to give you something. Good luck!

hmmmm - who would throw this shower? I think a 2nd shower is only justified if its a new father/family. Otherwise its completely selfish. Especially if you're already sounding greedy - which you both are - that you are specifying money and returning gifts.Whats the reason behind this shower - money or welcoming a child?

if you don't want a baby shower don't have one....I haven't had one with any of our four kids .....the people close enough to you to buy gifts will still buy gifts but will be more apt to buy you what you need/want

Clearly you arent greedy because you said you dont really want it. So maybe you should make it more of a celebration of a new baby coming into people's lives instead of getting presents. Have tons of cute baby games and have everyone bring their favorite baby videos and watch them together. Tell people not to get you gifts because you want to make it more of a welcoming the baby/saying goodbye for hawaii. Some people will get you gifts no matter what. Especially family/close friends so just accept them and then return what you need too. But make sure people will know it is going to be more of a gettogether than a baby shower.

First of all, I am also pregnant with my second child she is due in 5 weeks. We did not have a b aby shower because my first child is ontly 2 and we still have all her old baby stuff.I think that it is rude to have a second shower unless it is only for your family. I might also add that you usually have your baby shower in your 7th or 8th month. I think you are jumping the gun by having your shower this early. finally if i might add if you you are only going to be gone 8 months and only want what you can pack in the car what are you goiing to do with the crib, swing, and toys for the baby when you leave hawaii??My suggestion, wait until you get back from Hawaii until you have your baby shower
