Cold, hard cash, or a night in a hotel room?My great aunt asked my grandma this, and she relayed it to me, because she didn't know what to say. I got married a few weekends ago, and my aunt lives in another state, so she wasn't able to attend, and wants to give me a gift. We're pretty much living paycheck to paycheck, so the cash would be great, but we didn't have a honeymoon either, so there's good points for the hotel room, too. What is your opinion?

I'd rather have the cash personally. One night in a hotel room would be great, but not if it's in the same town or down the street from my house.

I would take the cash, because even if you want the night in a hotel room, you can pick the hotel.

I would take the cash because you can always go stay in a motel but if you are living from paycheck to paycheck then that extra money will come in handy. Besides why go stay in a motel when you have a room for free at home.

I say go for what you need for right now. I mean I know you want to have a honey moon right now as you missed having one. But I say its best to use the money to pay off some of your bills and probably put a little in the bank so when you get enough in there. Then you can take enough out for a honeymoon later on down the road. I think that would be more visible. Because who would really want to spend one night in a hotel? When if you save up your money the right way you could end up taking a nice trip to hawaii or some place later on.

Cash. One night in a hotel room isn't much.

If you did not get a honeymoon, take the hotel. Even if it is local, it can make you feel like you are getting away and that is important! Always take time for yourselves as a couple...you can do that without spending a lot of money.Congratulations!

If it's a nice hotel, take that. Check in as soon as you can and ask for a late check out. The main problem is you really don't get to stay long. 1 night isn't even 24 hours. They don't let you check in until 3-4pm IF they even have everything ready and then they want you out by 10-11am the next morning. If that doesn't sound worth it to you, take the money and go out to a nice dinner.
